Concrete retaining walls should be at minimum ⅛ the retained height in thickness, with most residential walls at 8–12 inches. Add reinforcing rebar vertically and horizontally. Provide weep holes every 6–8 feet. For walls over 4 feet, engineered drawings are typically required. A 20-ft retaining wall at 4-ft high × 8-in thick needs about 2 cubic yards.
